Sculpting Workshops 2010 (Scroll down to check out the slideshow from one of last year’s workshops.) Givemore Mashaya, ZimArt’s artist-in-residence for 2010, will be offering four workshops at Rice Lake Gallery in August. Registration is limited to ten participants in each. Currently there are no spaces for the 2010 workshops. If you would like to be placed on a waiting list in the event of a cancellation, or if you would like to be contacted for next year’s workshops, please email us zimart@sympatico.ca The five-day adult workshops are open to all levels of participants from beginners to experienced carvers. (Participants must be at least 15 years old.) Limiting registration to ten allows a lot of time for one-on-one assistance and mentoring. All basic tools are provided but students sometimes bring their own too. Everyone works outside under tents, using only hand tools, and learning and applying traditional techniques for finishing and polishing the stone. Former participants have described the week as “a magical experience” in an “inspirational setting”. The Gallery has a range of Zimbabwean stone for sale, in a variety of colours and hardness, and students are able to select a piece suited to their skill level. The adult workshop fee is $350, all of which will goes to the artist-in-residence. A weekend children’s workshop will be held on August 7 – 8, 2010. Children must be at least 7 years old to register. The workshop fee of $100 includes a piece of stone. There are still a few vacancies. Please email us if you would like more information zimart@sympatico.ca
