Spirit In The Stone

ZimArt is collaborating with the Durban Botanic Gardens to present the Gardens first exhibition of Zimbabwean stone sculpture.

Although Shona sculpture has become extremely popular in many parts of the world, South Africans rarely have the opportunity to see the best work because it is often destined for galleries overseas, before gaining local or regional exposure. Spirit in the Stone will showcase a dynamic selection of sculptures, in a range of sizes and stones, created by artists ZimArt has been representing in Canada over the past decade.

Established in 1851, the Durban Botanic Gardens located on 15 hectares in the heart of Durban, is the oldest surviving botanical garden in Africa. A beautiful sub-tropical sanctuary of peace and harmony, the Gardens has active cultural and educational outreach programmes and is committed to urban greening, organic gardening and medical plant conservation.
