Everlasting Love by Simon Chidharara.

Art Review Quote

”This tradition… is a genuinely indigenous art form; one that has its roots in ancestor worship and belief in the abiding presence of spirits.  They are producing, some say, the finest stonework in the world.

Stone Diaries 3

Hosted by Toronto’s historic Distillery District.

Exhibition dates: June 20 – 23, 2013, 10.00 a.m. – 8.00 p.m. daily
Reception: June 20, 5.00 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Gristmill Lane, The Distillery District

The cobblestones on Gristmill Lane, in the heart of The Distillery District, provide the perfect backdrop for this third, annual outdoor exhibition of stone sculpture from Zimbabwe.

Over 150 sculptures, ranging in size from six feet to six inches, will be on display – turning Gristmill Lane into a world class art gallery. ZimArt’s 2013 artist-in-residence, Simon Chidharara, will be featured along with thirty other Zimbabwean artists. Simon will be on site demonstrating and discussing his art throughout the exhibition.

As with all ZimArt exhibitions, Stone Diaries III is curated by Fran Fearnley, who travels to Zimbabwe every year to select and buy the work directly from the artists.

Free admission. If you would like to receive an electronic invitation to Stone Diaries III, once it’s available, please email zimart@sympatico.ca.

The Distillery District is an internationally acclaimed village of brick-lined streets and dozens of vibrantly restored Victorian Industrial buildings. It’s one of Ontario’s hottest tourist attractions and home to live theatres, galleries, fashion, design and jewelry boutiques, unique cafes and award-winning restaurants. It’s all completely closed to traffic and just a few minutes walk from downtown Toronto.
